With the highly theatrical and intricately embellished work Dolce & Gabbana has been doing the past few seasons, it comes as no surprise that their Spring 2014 show features an explosion of beautifully created garments decorated with eye-catching, sparkly elements.
The designers billed this offering as "an imaginary journey to rediscover ancient Sicily, where history and myth come together," and to that end they employed some truly glorious techniques. A painterly branch and leaf print on a white fabric was embedded with pink silk flowers to create a number of almost surreal dresses. More flowers emerged from dresses whose patterns mimicked traditional Sicilian ceramic tiles - though at times the designers let those patterns stand on their own. When it was time for the finale, the designers sent out what Twitter is calling the #GoldenArmy: a battalion of models in glorious gold spangled dresses.
