When we saw Avril Lavigne in an elegant black-and-white gown at the Huading Image Awards in China earlier this week, we had to wonder if the star was turning over a new leaf, stylewise. Rather than gold blush or thick rings of eyeliner, she wore a subdued cat eye and soft pink lips. Rather than technicolor-streaked half-shaved hair, she wore center-parted blonde waves. Perhaps having a permanent duet partner was making her soft?

But not for long! The star was next spotted at an airport looking like the Mrs. Chad Kroeger we’ve come to know and love. Sporting her giant pear-shaped diamond and a pair of aviators — oh yeah, and cornrows streaked with magenta strands — she looked as pleased as ever to wear a “life sux” tee.
As jarring as it was to see Lavigne all gussied up with not a hint of raccoon eye in sight, she did look lovely. On the other hand, we’re so used to seeing her with something funky going on that perhaps it was a relief to see her back to her old ways.
