Tale as old as time, songs as old as rhyme — no, it’s not Beauty and the Beast, it’s Tortoise and the Hare.
Ever since Aesop sat down to dish out some moral lessons sneakily hidden behind anthropomorphic animals, we have known about this fabled race.
In case you managed to miss this story that’s been around since 620 BCE, the gist is that a boastful hare is challenged to a race by a tortoise he ceaselessly teases for being slow. At the start of the race, the hare is so far ahead, he decides to take a nap. Unfortunately, the confident critter awakes to find that while he slept the tortoise crept by and won the race.
While neither tortoises nor hares have officially spoken on their feelings for each other, we have to imagine things are a little tense. This notion seemed to be confirmed recently when a rematch of the infamous grudge match was hosted at a pet expo in Thailand.
This time around the course was much shorter, meaning there was very little time for naps.
Does the hare make the same mistakes as his foolhardy ancestor? Is the tyranny of the tortoise finally overturned? Watch and find out!
