They say you can’t go home again, but that’s exactly what Parenthood‘s Monica Potter does in her latest show.
In her emotional new HGTV series, Welcome Back Potter, the actress, along with her mother and three sisters, purchase her childhood home in Cleveland, Ohio, and go to work restoring the neglected space.
Although the family sold the home in 1987, much of the property remained unchanged, right down to the hooks over the fireplace for their Christmas stockings and the retro dining room wallpaper. The personal memories tied to the materials encourage the family to use as many of the original elements as possible in their massive rehab project.
In this exclusive preview of the show, which premieres on HGTV on October 11, the women assess the state of the house and reflect on the difficulty of returning without their father, who passed away in 2004 from a heart attack.
“For me it’s been a lot of emotion, and I’m excited to make new memories, but there’s a little sadness of changing it from what it was when my dad was king of the house,” Potter’s sister Jessica says in the clip.

As they wander through the house, they come across the dining room, which boasts some eccentric wallpaper from decades past.
“What was I thinking?” Potter’s mom, Nancy, says clearly amused.
“More like what were you drinking,” one of her daughters adds.
