It’s probably safe to say that Lupita Nyong’o is quite the fan of Enrique Iglesias. For her performance on the Spike TV show, Lip Sync Battle, the Oscar-winning actress chose one of Iglesias’ biggest collaborations to date in Spanish, “Bailando,” with Gente de Zona. During the lip sync challenge, Nyong’o also showed off some of her dance moves and her hip shaking ability — after all, the song literally translates to “dancing.”
That Nyong’o is fluent in Spanish shouldn’t come as a surprise, either. Though she’s of Kenyan descent, Nyong’o was born in Mexico, identifies as Kenyan-Mexican and has often answered reporter questions in Spanish. Nyong’o’s song choice was also about as popular a Latin hit as one could pick. The hit song was pretty much everywhere on Spanish-language airwaves in 2014 when it was released and as of publication the music video has 1.6 billion views on YouTube. So, suffice it to say that Nyong’o isn’t the only one who’s been spent time singing and dancing along to the song.
