The Ultimate Style Guide To Packing For College

It's August, which means it's nearly time to go back to school. And for lots of people, that school is brand new.

As college freshmen, you're in a fresh environment. The world is your canvas and you can pretty much wear whatever you want. Sometimes, however, you forget about some very important factors that WILL impact the way you dress. There's the laundry you won't be doing, the walking that will give you shin splints and, if you're lucky, you might have an air-conditioned dorm (but don't get your hopes up).

So, to prepare for the first semester of your entire college career, we give you a style guide to packing for the big move. Of course, there are more logistical supplies that should be on your list (a First Aid Kit will get you a loooong way) but don't underestimate the power of a good pair of jeans.

Deodorant: This should be a no-brainer, but it's easy to forget when you have a bunch of other things to worry about.

Concealer: Because the under-eye bags are a’comin with all of that studying.

Jumbo sized soap: Get clean with a soap supply that never, ever ends.

Ceramic straightener: Leave the cheap one at home and get your parents (or if you’ve got the money) to invest in a good flat iron, for all of the times you get ready for a frat party.

Dental care: If there’s one thing you want to worry about during your college years, it’s your teeth. They are the windows to your #healthysoul and your regimen will combat all of the pizza, fries and acid-y drinks you’ll be consuming.

All-purpose makeup compact: Don’t waste the time you’re already wasting on dealing with a bunch of brushes, eyeshadows, etc… unless you want to, of course.

Shower caddy: This will hold all of your important hygiene items and they're fun to personalize too!

Skin care regimen: Consider the one you’ve been using, but also factor in the climate and environment of your new place of residence -- because it could change the way your skin works.

Nail polish remover: You’ll thank us later for this one.

Q-tips: Oh the hacks you could do with a measly old Q-tip, like fix your lipstick or cleaning the small spaces of your room.

Sunscreen: Football games and quad hangin’ are made for soaking up the sun, right? So do your skin a favor and slather up with some sunscreen.

Shower caps: Ha, who really wants to wash their hair everyday?

Vitamins: Keep your wellness up with just a single motion of poppin’ that multivitamin. It will at least help you survive the weekends.

Dry shampoo: On a related note, you can add to your no wash, don’t care routine with a bottle of the good stuff.

Shampoo and conditioner: But of course, there are times you really need to wash your hair.

Pain killers: We shouldn’t have to explain this one.

Underwear, and lots of it: You’re never going to do laundry, and there’s only so many times you can substitute with swimsuit bottoms.

Cheap flip flops: You’ll want a couple of pairs for many reasons. One, you definitely don’t want your feet hitting the shower floor. Two, YOU DEFINITELY don’t want to get your fave shoes messed up at a party.

Little black dress: You just never know when you'll need it, but when that time comes you'll be golden!

Sunglasses: Sunnies cover a lot of things, like your eyes so they don’t get a beat down from the sun. Or your eyes when you haven’t even slept a wink the night before.

Socks: From thin to thick, you’ll be rocking mismatched socks all semester long -- so you might as well as get a million pairs.

One pair of heels: Just in case there’s a formal or a mix and mingle with your professors. But we guess you could wear them out, too.

A robe: It might not be as efficient as a towel, but a robe is convenient nonetheless.

Hangers: Hangers are the best tools in helping you get your clothes off of the floor, and you can neatly put said clothes into your tiny wardrobe, instead of stuffing them in.

A sturdy pair of jeans: Word around the block is that you never have to wash your jeans, so get a good pair that will last you these next couple of months so you can wear them to class... with class.

Shoe organizer: These come in handy, especially the ones that hang on the back of your door or wall, because you can put anything in them -- like your blow dryer, medications and any other random items.

Workout shorts: What’s better than pants that have built in underwear?

Tights on tights on tights: Whether they’re nylons or straight up leggings, you’re going to need that beast of comfort when it comes to studying, not studying, etc. Also, this is a great way to keep your closet clutter to a minimum, because with tights you can transform your summer frocks into fall/winter dresses.

A wristlet: Let’s see, you have your dorm keycard, your student ID, your fake ID and some other questionable (yet practical) things to hold. Put it all in one place without the carrying hassle.

A blazer: A sleek blazer could really put any look together. Try a plain color like black or navy, so you it can carry you from exams to whatever else you do at college.

Sneakers: If you’re not taking advantage of the FREE GYM, then get a stylish enough pair to put on with an occasional cool outfit.
