Thanks to intel from inside the Trump campaign, we've long known that the GOP front-runner's strategy to attack Hillary Clinton will involve her husband's alleged affairs. After all, Trump — who, even if he's not actually a conspiracy theorist, knows how to use conspiracy to his advantage — is pals with Roger Stone, the guy who wrote The Clintons’ War on Women.
Trump proved the lengths to which he would go when he called Hillary a "nasty, mean enabler" of Bill's affairs earlier this month. But now, in typical Trump style, he's gone a step further. In an interview with Fox's Sean Hannity Wednesday night, Trump accused Bill Clinton of rape.
"How big an issue should [the accusations against Bill Clinton] be in the campaign?" Hannity asked Trump. "For example, I looked at The New York Times. Are they going to interview Juanita Broaddrick? Are they going to interview Paula Jones? Are they going to interview Kathleen Willey? In one case, it's about exposure. In another case, it's about groping and fondling and touching against a woman's will."
"And rape," Trump said.
"And rape," Hannity replied.
"And big settlements, massive settlements," Trump continued. "And lots of other things. And impeachment for lying." He went on, "You know, he lost his law license, OK? He couldn't practice law. And you don't read about this on Clinton."
If this is part of Trump's plan to neutralize Clinton's appeal to women, there's a slight chance it might backfire.
