There is perhaps no more iconic American designer than Ralph Lauren - and that's not just because his classic sportswear has been winning the hearts of critics and shoppers alike for over 40 years. Lauren's advertising imagery (much of it shot by renowned photographer Bruce Weber) has been creating an idealized and almost cinematic picture of American life since the early '80s, and in more recent years they've starred everyone from Naomi Campbell and Gisele Bundchen to Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz.
