Shailene Woodley isn't like your average 20-something actress. She has quite the "alternative lifestyle" where she gets her food from a farm, goes bare-faced on the red carpet and doesn't have a cell phone. No wonder she always looks so relaxed and well-rested. But, there is a bit more to Woodley's enviable glow.
In an interview with Into The Gloss, the "Divergent" star shares her unconventional beauty secrets. Having been "an avid environmentalist since high school," Woodley naturally became interested in herbalism and making her own beauty products. But one of her greatest discoveries happened in the back of a taxi cab. She explains:
I first heard about the benefits of eating clay from a taxi driver. He was African and was saying that, where he’s from, the women eat clay when they’re pregnant. Seriously -- ask your taxi drivers where they are from and about their customs. You will learn a lot. So, I've discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn’t absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes.
After a friend freaked out because eating clay made her "shit smell like metal," Woodley dug deeper and realized you should be careful where you source your clay. (Note taken.)
But things got even more awkward in this interview when the California native revealed the weird way she uses vitamin D:
Another thing I like to do is give my vagina a little vitamin D. [Laughs] I was reading an article written by an herbalist I studied about yeast infections and other genital issues. She said there’s nothing better than vitamin D.
