Stop rolling your eyes at your prolific home cook/dilettante food blogger/pretentious foodie friend who only Instagrams photos of what they are about to eat (or the plate of what they just ate). Instead thank them, for those amateur food photo shoots are helping you lose weight. Researchers at Brigham Young University found that when people looked at photos of food before eating, they experienced diminished enjoyment when it came time to have a meal — basically, ubiquitous "look what I ate" pictures on Pinterest and Instagram make food taste worse. So by all means, proceed with all of those nicely filtered pictures of that horrible, unidentifiable thing you cooked last night; it's almost lunchtime.
