It's common knowledge that if you really want to show how much you love someone, the best way to do it is by inviting 300-plus attendees (and at least one photographer whose work has been seen in Vogue) to an unexpected destination wedding. Fortunately, our new BFFs that we met last weekend in the Hamptons just added us to their guest list. We don’t even care that we’re a replacement invite. Since the Overspenders relish any opportunity to travel to very remote towns in the mountains of Europe, or castles in Bavaria that belong to our friend's not-so-distant relatives, we just purchased two $34,000 last-minute tickets in first class to Munich, just to make sure we'll be there in time for this weekend’s planned events.
We've gathered a few outfits and necessities for the 24-hour travel and three days of parties – a brunch, the wedding itself, an after-party – as well as several very practical gifts for a new couple starting out in an overspending world. There are a few extra presents in tow, because we’ll have to feel the vibe out before we determine which of the Victorian trinkets and other antiques feel right for the new Mr. and Mrs. (What is that they say about gifts?
