There were certain things that were familiar about Princess Kate‘s look Saturday when she visited an America’s Cup event at Ben Ainslee Racing center in Portsmouth, England: She wore her favored picture-perfect pony, Breton tee and skinny jeans, which she always turns to for sailing outings. So what made this look particularly noteworthy? Well, for one, she was wearing the world’s coolest monogrammed jacket, and for another, her hair was picture perfect even in monsoon conditions that ended up canceling the race. So we investigated how to get both.

First up, that jacket (see the back below). To go with her beloved Zara skinny jeans (yes, skinny jeans less than three months after the birth of Princess Charlotte) and Sebago “Bala” boat shoes, Kate chose a personalized fleece from Henri Lloyd — the technical clothing supplier to the Ben Ainslie Racing team. Husband Prince William had a coordinating one, of course, and for the extra cute factor, the royal couple were gifted miniature versions of the navy micro fleece for both Prince George and Princess Charlotte
Now for the first time, the sailing specialist clothing brand is offering the fleece to all customers in the US, with your name featured on the back, just like the Cambridges! The Land Rover BAR Aura Half Zip Women’s Fleece, which retails for $109, is a micro stretch fleece and comes with all the official badges and logos that Ben Ainslie and his team will sport on their quest to win back the America’s Cup. Personalization costs $8 for five letters and then 78 cents per letter. (Sailing credentials and glossy hair swept up into a bouncy ponytail are, sadly, not included.)
For the prize ceremony, a quick change was in order, with Kate swapping the flat shoes for her “fancy sporty” uniform of Stuart Weitzman “Corkswoon” wedge heels and a smarter (and much-worn) double-breasted jacket from Zara. And, despite the stormy weather, not a damp hair was out of place.

So how did she achieve such tress perfection on such a stormy day? Daniel Galvin Jr., who runs an eponymous salon in London’s Mayfair neighborhood and is an ambassador for Prince Charles’s Prince’s Trust, says Kate was smart to pick a swingy, sporty look for the weather. (Galvin,whose has a line of products for kids’ hair available at Target, is also the son of one of the late Princess Diana’s hairstylists.)
“It’s a perfect look for this event and in particular it kept the English weather from getting the better of it,” Galvin says. “It’s a look she wears so well and will give her the confidence that even on a drizzly day will stay intact with no frizz or flatness.”
Want to replicate it yourself? Fatima Burhan, a head stylist at his salon, recommends a few easy steps. After blowdrying hair (even a day before) and setting with rollers, apply a product like dry wax or serum “to take away flyaway hair and frizz but to also give shine,” she says. Next, section hair and backcomb the top for volume, then brush it all together with a hairbrush and bind with a hair tie. Wrap a section around the ponytail holder and pin, then spray (while teasing at the crown a bit) with a shine-enhancing hairspray to combat the elements and keep everything in place!
