Orange Is the New Black actress Adrienne C. Moore is on an interior design crash course, and she’s not the only of her castmates that’s learning rule number one the hard way.
“I was literally over at Taylor Schilling’s house the other day and she was showing me some new furniture she had purchased and was like, ‘I didn’t know I had to measure everything!’” Moore, 36, tells Domino. “And I was like ‘I know!’”
Moore, known as “Black Cindy” on the hit Netflix show, recalls her most recent buying blunder, saying, “I bought all this furniture because they were having a liquidation sale and the couch couldn’t fit up my stairs. I was like ‘oops, didn’t take that into account.’”

Accepting her limited knowledge of decorating, Moore decided to team up with friend and interior designer, Nicole Gibbons, as well as ATG Stores and Lowe’s, who helped the actress turn her New York City rental into a stylish mid-century home. But as many apartment-dwellers know, there are lots of limitations to personalizing a space you don’t own.
“I love color on the walls and wallpaper, but Adrienne is renting, which is a story everyone can relate to,” Gibbons says. “So we just did a super bright white on the walls, which creates a very airy feel.”

Artwork, throw pillows and decorative accents also help bring pops of color into the living area, while added storage, updated fixtures and freshly painted cabinets give the cookie-cutter bathroom a refreshed vibe. Although Moore says she’s thrilled with both redesigned spaces, there’s no question about which piece makes her feel most at home.
“I have already started getting in some amazing naps on my couch,” she says.
