That Oscar nod means everything to an actor. It’s respect from your peers, it’s celebrity and prestige, it’s glamorous parties and red carpets. And, of course, it’s designers fighting for the chance to dress you for the biggest night of your career.
At 84, Nebraska star June Squibb isn’t going to let this opportunity go to waste.
“It’s great! It really is!” Squibb tells PEOPLE of the newfound attention from the fashion world since landing her Best Actress in a Supporting Role nomination. “There’s no bad about it! It’s just wonderful. I’ve always liked clothes, I’ve always enjoyed shopping and the magazines, so this is just sort of whipped cream on top of everything.”

And the cherry on top? The actress has already found her new favorite designer. “I wore Tadashi Shoji for both the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, and he is making me an Oscar dress from the bottom up, completely mine!” she told PEOPLE while attending the 64th Annual ACE Eddie Awards in Beverly Hills. “I am so thrilled, because I love his gowns, they’re just so wonderful.”
Shoji famously collaborated with Octavia Spencer on her showstopping gown when she took home the Academy Award in the same category in 2011, and Squibb is also enjoying input into the design of the big day’s dress.
“My stylist and I both wanted an emerald green,” the actress says. “Then [Shoji] gave us a drawing, which I’m going to frame of course, and it’s gorgeous! We got a swatch of the material, and it’s unbelievable material. It has beading, and everything that you can imagine on it, so I’m really excited about that.”
