Madonna‘s fall wasn’t so graceful at the Brit Awards, but the singer certainly handled the fallout with class. The 56-year-old superstar tumbled after a dancer accidentally tugged on her long, black cape during her performance last week, sparking a ton of vines and memes. And designer Giorgio Armani, who created her custom cloak, has shared a few surprising thoughts of his own on the incident.

“Madonna, as we know, is very difficult,” he told the Associated Press in a recent interview, adding, “this cape had a hook and she wanted a tie, and she wasn’t able to open it with her hands. That’s all there is to it.”
It was evident that Madge struggled taking off the cape, which led to one of her backup singers getting caught on it and dragging her along the way. But it’s surprising to hear Armani — who has a long-standing professional relationship with the star — point out her diva ways.
While she seemed to recover quickly (and was able to finish her performance), Madonna did say she suffered a few minor injuries.
“I know how to fall. I’ve fallen off my horse many times, and I tucked, and I have good core strength … but the thing is, I had a little bit of a whiplash, and I smacked the back of my head,” she explained. “So, there was a man standing over me with a flashlight until about 3 a.m. making sure that I was still compos mentis.”
And it also hurt the singer’s pride. “It was a horrible nightmare, because I like to be amazing,” she added. “Seriously, I rehearse and I rehearse and I rehearse, so that when I do the show it’s effortless and I create magic, and I did the opposite. I actually created a horror show for everyone.”
