Look of the Week: Suki Waterhouse's Fresh-Faced Makeup at the Insurgent Premiere

We’re constantly updating our “Last Night’s Look” gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Every Friday we’ll be highlighting one of the week’s most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hair stylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.

For the first installment of LOTW, we’re breaking down model/actress Suki Waterhouse‘s glowing beauty moment at the N.Y.C. Insurgent premiere.

The 22-year-old star was the epitome of perfection in a lacy, beaded Reem Acra design, but what also caught our attention was her dewy complexion, exaggerated cat eye and soft pink lip. Makeup artist Gita Bass (who’s worked with Keira Knightley, Tina Fey and Cate Blanchett) told PEOPLE she wanted to create a makeup look that was gorgeous but not too over-the-top that it took attention away from the rest of her ensemble.

“It was a real modern-day princess dress, and I didn’t want [Suki’s] makeup to compete,” she explained. “The dress was a gorgeous nude pink, a perfect palette for her makeup with the cat eye being the one element that popped.”

To highlight the ethereal design, Bass began by blending a few drops of Burberry Sheer Foundation (Waterhouse is a brand ambassador!) with a damp Beauty Blender to create a dewy, glowy complexion. She added Burberry Nude Glow Bronzer to the hollows of her cheeks and around her temples to “slightly contour and add some warmth to her face.”

For Waterhouse’s Cara Delevingne-inspired brows, Bass brushed them up “so they were a little spiky” and set them with brow gel. “I love them looking a little wild and not too perfect,” she said.

Skipping eye shadow to keep the look “modern and cool,” Bass applied Burberry Effortless Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black to create the cat eye. By using the bottom lash line as her guide for the liner’s angle, Bass kept the line super thin on the inner corners and gradually thickened the line toward the wing. (Pro tip: Keep Q-Tips and cleansing water nearby to easily fix mistakes without lifting off the rest of your makeup.) To complete the winged liner, Bass asked Waterhouse to stay alert. “I had Suki keep her eyes slightly open while I perfected the shape — that is key!,” she explained.

Bass then gave the model a few swipes of Burberry Kisses Lipstick in Nude Pink for a perfectly pale pink pout. “[The shade] was just enough warmth to keep her from looking washed out.”

While this was the first time Bass has worked with Waterhouse, it (hopefully) won’t be the last. “I adored her. She is unique, cool and know what she wants,” Bass said. “And did I mention she is absolutely gorgeous? A real makeup artist’s dream!”

What do you think of the star’s beauty look? Will you be recreating her bold brow/cat eye combo for your next date night?
