Some things in Hollywood are as constant as the sun and stars: Beyoncé will wear something sheer and mermaid-style on the red carpet. Taylor Swift won’t be seen without her red lipstick. And Jennifer Lopez will have long, bombshell waves until the end of time.

The diva, whose superlong locks — whether blown-out, wavy or tied in a topknot — have been her signature since her On the 6 days, showed up at the L.A. airport with a significantly different do: a sleek shoulder-length style with lots of face-framing layers, though still retaining her classic blown-out bounce. And though we were immediately fans of her modern look, one clown (literally, a clown) expressed his dismay with the transformation by shooting confetti onto her in the check-in area.
“Prankster” Richie the Barber launched a glitter bomb onto the passing star, who acted unfazed (though newly sparkly) as she kept walking quickly away. And if you’re wondering why a man dressed as a wacky clown is allowed until an airport — especially one who has had criminal battery charges filed against him by the Kardashians for the same stunt — you’re not alone.

So far, no one has taken credit for Lopez’s cut on the Internet (and Lopez’s latest Instagram says “Fear is stupid. So is regret,” which we’re assuming is an oblique reference to the new bob). But her longtime hair guru Lorenzo Martin, who recently christened Lopez “Queen of the Hair Flip,” spoke to PEOPLE earlier this year about keeping the star’s locks look updated.
“Thing about Jennifer is she looks good in everything, and she has amazing hair which makes my job very easy,” he said. “We work together so much, we have to constantly switch it up so she looks fresh. I’m pretty lucky.” And she can wear anything, he adds: “She probably has one of the most enviable heads in Hollywood … I’ve said it before but when someone has amazing hair, it’s easy to create amazing looks.”
