Jaden Smith Doesn't See the Difference Between Men's and Women's Clothing, Just Sees 'Scared People and Comfortable People'

Jaden Smith has never been afraid of fashion. The 17-year-old celebrity offspring—parents are Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith—is the face of Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2016 womenswear campaign. He wore a Batman costume to prom and Kimye’s wedding. He can rock a flower crown better than any seasoned Coachella-goer. And now he’s opening up about his fearless style in the upcoming issue of British GQ Style.

Clearly, he’s all about pushing boundaries, much like his trendsetter sister Willow Smith. And has no qualms with crossing the gender divide with his clothing (he did, after all, stir up considerable drama starring in Louis Vuitton’s spring ads wearing a skirt).

In fact, he doesn’t see the divide at all: “I feel like people are kind of confused about gender norms. I feel like people don’t really get it. I’m not saying that I get it, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen any distinction,” he tells GQ Style. “I don’t see man clothes and woman clothes, I just see scared people and comfortable people.”

He also talks about the dynamics of his stylish squad (including the Kardashian/Jenner crew) and admits he does bring the group up a notch, by just, well, being him. “I think I’m just a really big influence on anybody that I’m around, and I feel like that’s why it’s good for me to hang out with all types of different people.”

While he accepts his current role as inspiration to some, his main goal in life is a little broader: to change the world (no, we’re not exaggerating). “I’m really working towards just fixing the whole planet Earth. I really just want to create a utopia on this planet. I really want to make it so that people don’t have to die to pay bills and just work to survive. So that they can work to actually live and do the things that they love to do.”

The issue will be available online and on newsstands Thursday March 17.
