Zoë Kravitz has reached new heights. With her hair, that is. At Monday’s New York premiere of The Divergent Series: Allegiant, the actress stepped on the red carpet sporting on a sky-high topknot. Gravity-defying? Indeed. But as she, and her hairstylist Nikki Nelms proved, it’s not impossible.
So how tall was it?

“I didn’t measure it, but if I had to guess I’d say 6 inches easy,” Nelms told PeopleStyle when we caught up with her today. And she whipped it together quickly: “It took no more than 30 minutes,” she said, “maybe even 15.”
The inspiration came from the outfit, Nelms explained, citing the Valentino leather fringe fishnet dress as the inspiration for the hairstyle. “During the fitting, [Kravitz’s] hair was pinned up in a loose topknot, which had a cool look to in relation to the total look, so we decided to do a sleeker, tighter version,” Nelms said of the look, which she styled with Sebastian Shaper Plus Extra Hold Hairspray, a few bobby pins and two hair ties. “After she looked in the mirror, she said, ‘Nikki, I really love it!’ I love her.”

Kravitz wasn’t the only star to show off a dramatic do on the Allegiant red carpet. Maggie Q, who plays Tori in the action flick (and is also know for her previous role in Nikita), went blonde, showing off her lightened, honey-hued, shoulder-length locks, which she paired with a high-color beaded-embellished ensemble and pale pink lip.

There was even more buzz that night: Miles Teller debuted a closely clipped buzzcut on the red carpet, and we can’t help but notice how well it accents his slate gray Dior Homme suit and tie.
