How to Determine Your Skin's Undertone Using Color Fabrics

Your skin undertone is the coloring underneath the surface of your skin and does not change during your lifetime. Knowing whether you have a cool or a warm skin undertone is a key piece of information about yourself to take with you makeup shopping and when choosing a hair color at the hair salon.

If you choose a makeup or hair color that does not match your skin undertone, you could be making yourself look dull, washed out, older and if you have any skin imperfections such as acne or scarring, these imperfections may be magnified.

A couple of popular do-it-yourself ways to determine your skin undertone are:

- The Vein Test:
If your veins look blue, you have a cool undertone. If they look green, you have a warm undertone. If you are unable to determine if they look blue or green, you may have a neutral undertone. I have found this test doesn't work for everyone.

- Silver Versus Gold Test: If silver is more in harmony with your coloring, you have a cool undertone. If gold is more in harmony with your coloring, you have a warm undertone.

In the video above, I share with you a test you can do at home using colors I use during a color analysis consultation. You can either follow along the video instructions and use a photo of yourself or even better, you can use fabric colors in your closet that are a match to the colors in the video and stand in front of a mirror.
