Armchair fashion historians will likely recognize the origins of these Dior shoes. Creative director Raf Simons borrowed the shape of the inverted “choc” heel, designed by Roger Vivier for Christian Dior in the fifties, and married it with the house’s signature houndstooth print. Less apparent: The houndstooth is, in fact, hand-painted onto snakeskin, and beneath the sleek, contoured front of the shoe is a hidden platform, making for a surrealist statement that’s sturdy and shockingly comfortable ($1,100 at 21 E. 57th St., nr.
