Even Giorgio Armani, who's as venerable as designers get, will engage with a theme. His Spring 2014 Emporio Armani collection took on the flowers that have been coming down runways all over the world by washing them out and cutting them into pants and shirts or flattening their petals and applying them in stylized patterns to blazers and dresses.
But even with all those flowers, this collection was more a statement on proportion and color than it was on gardening. Armani's black lacquered runway played host to a variety of colors, from petal pink to black velvet. Armani masterfully cut those materials into wide-leg pants, generously tailored jackets, and a variety of shapes that floated away from the body.
