Elizabeth Taylor's Home Was Full of Lipstick, Chanel, and Diamonds, Obviously: See Never-Before-Seen Photos

Stunning and surreal! In the months leading up to Elizabeth Taylor's death, the icon admitted photographer Catherine Opie into her home to photograph her private domain. Opie continued to snap pictures of the home in later months, before Taylor's estate went to auction.

PHOTOS: Elizabeth Taylor through the years

The images reveal the kind of life the Cleopatra star lived in her later days. From a curious message written in lipstick ("The quest for Japanese beef") on her bathroom mirror to an immaculately organized closet and a shelf full of perfumes and jewels, the glamorous actress, who died in March of 2011, was surrounded by complete luxury, specifically gems and couture labels.

One of the most revealing areas in Taylor's home is her closet. In the photo above, the walk-in room is ultra clean and categorized. It contained furs, silks, and gowns by a variety of high-fashion designers, including a Liz Taylor favorite, Chanel.

Speaking of the french label, Taylor owned multiple pairs of the same shoe, in different colors. Here, they are modeled by Taylor's cat, Fang.

But it's the diamonds and makeup that truly catch our eyes. The two-time wife of Richard Burton spread her jewels over the surface of a vanity, and kept fragrances, lip balms, and lotions behind the precious stone designs. Interestingly, above the makeup and diamonds on the counter, the picture shows a message written in lipstick on the mirror that reads, "The quest for Japanese beef."

Taylor also had one-of-a-kind jewels, like the Krupp Diamond, in her home at the time of her death.

The actress' jewelry illustrated her passion for certain causes as well. Here, there are numerous brooches of red ribbons, showcasing her support for an AIDS cure.

Taylor’s collections weren’t solely concerned with makeup and gems, though. She had a bevy of hand-painted portraits on her living room wall.
