Kate Chastain has learned her lesson about showing relationships on reality TV.
The Below Deck star spoke to PEOPLE Now on Wednesday about her arrest for an alleged incident of domestic violence with then-girlfriend Rocio Hernandez, who appeared on a recent episode of the Bravo reality show.
Summing up the off-screen drama she’s endured since June as a result of the altercation, Chastain had one word: “Unfair.”
Chastain, who previously exclusively dated men, surprised her crew mates aboard the charter yacht Valor this season when she revealed she was in a relationship with the former soccer pro. When Hernandez visited, the cameras and microphones caught plenty of PDA — a decision Chastain now admits she regrets.
“I’ve had significant others during other seasons, but I kept it very private. This season, it wasn’t really my intention to have it so public, but it just happened and I’m not sure it’s a mistake I’ll make again,” she told PEOPLE.
She continued that Hernandez “really wanted a lot of attention, and I think I did my job well and made time for her, but I just wish I hadn’t given in so much to her.”
As for the allegations that Chastain drunkenly choked and bit her ex, the chief stewardess said, “I wish I could tell you more — I’m legally advised not to — but I’m really looking forward to the day that I can. We’re taking it to trial because we’re very certain in my side.”
Below Deck airs Tuesdays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
