This Ballet Video Was Staged in a New York Penthouse

To celebrate the release of their new book, photographers Deborah Ory and Ken Browar filmed ballet dancers in a New York penthouse. Two American Ballet Theatre dancers, soloist Cassandra Trenary, and principal Daniil Simkin, performed on the vast, not-yet-open top floor of NeueHouse, a creative work space for entrepreneurs and artists.

The film nods to Ory and Browar’s new coffee-table book The Art of Movement, a 304-page compendium of portraits of over 70 dancers from ABT, New York City Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Alvin Ailey, and other dance companies. As founders of NYC Dance Project, the two photographers are known for featuring dancers in their work.
