Angela Bassett tossed all the cliche fashion rules out the window when she hit the red carpet premiere of Lifetime's Whitney on Tuesday, Jan. 6, in Beverly Hills. The actress-turned-director clearly works hard on her physique and isn't shy about showing it off.

At first glance, the 56-year-old looked quite conservative in a subdued pantsuit, but of course there was more to the story. Underneath the blazer was a sexy v-neck crop top, which bared the American Horror Story star's toned tummy and lots of cleavage. Bassett rounded out her outfit with a pair of sky-high snake-print pumps.

The Emmy nominated actress gave up her secrets to preparing for a red carpet event with Violet Grey. "My first question is always 'Is my team available?'" she said, "I wish I could do all of this, but everyone has their gifts."

No miracle pill here, Bassett sticks to a strick diet. "I try to watch my diet so I can fit into whatever I am wearing," she said. "Cut the sugar, the alcohol, and the bread, and eat a lot of protein and veggies."
Yaya DaCosta, who stars at Whitney Houston, looked just as hot in a white satin ensemble that revealed her midsection.
