British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman might support designers using model of all sizes in their shows, but — as she told Lily Allen in a BBC radio interview — when it comes to Vogue covers, she knows what sells, and it isn't real people. When asked about the type of girl that attracts readers, Shulman described the Vogue cover girl as “quite conventional, probably smiling, in a pretty dress; somebody looking very 'lovely.' The most perfect girl next door.”
But before you ask her why that “perfect girl next door” is a third the size of a normal human, don't. "I get fed up with having to deal with the question of why are models thin, that sort of bores me, but that's the only thing really,” she said. "People don't want to buy a magazine like Vogue to see what they see when they look in the mirror. They can do that for free."
You gotta respect an unapologetic gal, huh?
