We spend a lot of time oohing and ahing over the perfectly polished hairstyles celebs wear on the red carpet. But this week, we were left stunned by messy hair.
Karolina Kurkova attended a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the Pirelli Calendar sporting a wispy low ponytail, and Jennifer Lawrence rocked her new pixie haircut with a punkish edge. But not everyone was successful at making messy hair look effortless. (We're looking at you, Pixie Lott!)

BEST: Jennifer Lawrence
You may not be feeling Lawrence's much-shorter strands, but she sure is having fun with it. The "Hunger Games" star nailed this '80s-inspired look with her boyish pixie, dark brows, smokey eye makeup and bright pink lipstick.
BEST: Shay Mitchell
THIS is why the "Pretty Little Liars" actress scored a hair contract with Pantene. Mitchell works her signature glossy waves with groomed brows, black liquid liner and matte red lips. Simply sophisticated.
BEST: Karolina Kurkova
We'd like to thank the Czech model and actress for proving that messy hair can be sexy, too. Her platinum blonde locks fall loosely out of her ponytail, framing her gorgeous skin and red pout.
BEST: Garcelle Beauvais
Beauvais' style keeps getting better with age. This shoulder-skimming haircut is the perfect length to go with this strapless dress, and it doesn't hurt that her jet black hair color doesn't look dull. The 46-year-old actress' purple smokey lids and raspberry lip gloss add the finishing touch.
BEST: Kristen Bell
The newlywed is positively glowing! So naturally she kept her hair and makeup simple by wearing slightly tousled waves, lash-thickening mascara and coral lipstick.
WORST: Jena Malone
Between her unflattering hair color, too dark and too thick eyebrows and dated lip gloss, there really isn't much salvageable here. May we recommend a sleek chignon and softer makeup for your next red carpet appearance, Jena?
WORST: Ke$ha
Ke$ha still misses the mark even when in costume (or at least that's what we're calling this). The beaded hair jewels, "Black Swan"-esque eye makeup and ill-placed gold glitter look like items she found in the Halloween sale section at the drugstore.
WORST: Brandi Cyrus
Yes, this is Miley Cyrus' little sister. And yes, she has greasy hair, unkempt eyebrows and spidery false eyelashes on the red carpet.
WORST: Pixie Lott
The English singer-songwriter's lopsided beehive hairstyle, thick black eyeliner and frosted pink cheeks and lipstick reminds us of an old Barbie doll we didn't treat with care.
WORST: Ashlee Simpson
The too-fake-to-fake-it hair is really what kept Simpson off of the best beauty list. Her side-swept curls are practically taking over her face and distracting from her pretty eye makeup.
