Diane von Furstenberg's Granddaughter Releases Her Second Collection For a New DVF Customer

Following the debut of her first collection for her grandmother's iconic DVF brand in April, Talita von Furstenberg is tapping into her West Coast roots for round two. With the release of her second collection, Talita puts the focus on a warmer, romantic vibe that's perfect for mixing with a more buttoned-up East Coast feel.

It's both an homage to the Summers she spent with her grandmother in Connecticut and a lineup designed with her peers in mind, many of whom sat around the lovely table at her luncheon at La Mercerie in New York to celebrate the launch. Of course, they were all decked out in her ethereal, floor-length maxis, Talita herself choosing the dusty-rose silk gown, as she modeled above.

The 20-piece mix of feminine-cool dresses, knits, and skirts is meant to be styled up and down, with jewelry, and paired with boots for Fall. "I always consider my own needs as a student and a young professional when I'm leading the art direction on my collections. It's important my clothes can be easily styled in different ways to coordinate with a constantly shifting schedule," Talita said in a press release.

Ahead of the Fall collection release, we chatted with Talita on growing the evolution of her brand, her take on trends, and advice from her iconic grandmother.

POPSUGAR: How has your collection evolved since April? What have you been most excited to introduce to your lineup this time around?

Talita von Furstenberg: My collection has evolved largely because of my own growth. I moved to New York and am now enrolled in NYU studying the Future of Fashion and Business of Fashion. Being on the East Coast is very reminiscent of my childhood, especially spending Summers at DVF's home up in the country. I pulled the inspiration for my Fall collection from the property with its sprawling woods and natural creeks. The collection definitely feels very personal and a true representation of myself.

I'm most excited about the knitwear included in the capsule. I layer everything with a cozy knit, and it's definitely a trait I've picked up from DVF to implement formula dressing into the collection. I'm excited to have given the customer a full look including the sweater for when the New York chill really kicks in!

PS: What's your favorite Fall trend, and what's your philosophy on trends in general?

TVF: I focus less on trends, and instead I love a good rummage through the DVF archives and other vintage shops when I want to try something new. I look more to the past for inspiration, but having moved to New York and getting into the Fall weather, I love a cool pair of boots or a great jacket to complete an outfit.

PS: What advice would you give to other young women trying to find space in this industry?

TVF: I think it's important to identify your customer and speak to them in your efforts to support the collection. One of my focuses was to create an attainable price point for the styles as I'm speaking a lot to my peers in the capsule. It was important to me that nothing was more expensive that $328 so students and young professionals could easily identify with the collection.

PS: What's the best advice you've ever gotten from your grandmother?

TVF: DVF has always taught me to never give up. It's so simple but can be implemented in so many facets of my life. I've been wanting to be a part of the DVF brand for so long but in my own way, and I couldn't be more proud that I've found my place and am growing in my position as art director for the collection.
